As first year students, we all make mistakes whether that is getting an MIP or gaining the "Freshmen 15" or performing poorly in school.  Sometimes, our decision making skills are not the best.  We are here to help students avoid the typical first year blunders.
Academics

Your first year as a college student is typically your easiest.  However, so many students hurt their academic year because they do not understand how to prioritize or how to manage their time.  Even though college is a time for newfound independence and freedom, you have to remember that you are students first.  It is okay to have fun, but sometimes having too much fun can be detrimental to your job as a student.  There are many available resources on campus to help you be as successful as you can be.

Health

The "Freshman 15" is a real thing.  Sometimes, it is even the "Freshman 30" or "Freshman 40." As growing adults, we no longer have these fast metabolisms that allow us to eat whatever we want without gaining weight.  We may also not be as physically active as we were in high school.  Remember that it is important to be wary of our health.  Eating right and being active is good not only for physical health, but for our mental health as well.

Involvement

It is important not to only perform well academically, but to also get involved with various organizations on campus.  By becoming involved, you can gain so many experiences that can provide you with the knowledge and skills needed for the business world.  Student involvement enables you to make both professional and social connections.  Don't lose out on all of the great opportunities to become well-connected and active in your communities!

Party Smart

We all know that many college students drink whether they are underaged or not.  Whether a minor gets caught drinking underaged is dependent upon the minor's drinking behaviors such as passing out in a hallway or drinking so much that he or she pukes all over the bathroom wall.  Drink responsibly and party smart.  The last thing underaged students need are MIPs on their records that could potentially ruin their chances at prospective jobs.

Community

Your friends and family are crucial components to your college success.  Without them, you would not feel as at home while attending school.  Yes, school comes first.  But spending social time with your friends and family members allows you to take a break from the stressful life of being a college student and to have some down time for yourself.  Without time set aside for relaxation, you may go insane.

Social Networks

Whenever there are career fairs being held on campus, it is important that you attend.  You never know when there might be a company or internship position of potential interest to your academic needs.  Your professors and employers may also act as social networks for you. Your professors and employers have different connections and experiences that could possibly help you pursue a career or higher education.
