Apartment Living
Written by Marco Romero
As an alternative to greek housing or the residence halls, students have the option of leasing their own apartment. Options can range anywhere from single to four bedroom apartments. Given that Pullman is a college town renting an apartment is actually quite convenient. As opposed to other options, renting an apartment provides tenants with more space and privacy. In addition, one has the option of furnishing the rented space however one likes and the freedom to live on one’s own terms. Prices range anywhere from $250 – $800 depending on the proximity to campus and the amenities offered. Generally, choosing to have roommates will decrease not only the cost of monthly rent but also the cost of other expenses such as utilities, internet, and television because these expenditures are divvied up among roommates. Because there is such a wide variety in amenities, choosing where to live comes down to availability and lifestyle. Amenities can vary anywhere from included washer and dryer and other appliances, to pets allowed, or to smoking friendly environments. While one would inherit new financial responsibilities in regards to bills, maintenance on the property is provided by the management to the same degree that one would expect for residence halls and not attained by living in a house.
